da Vinci Designs - New Products

da Vinci Built Carbon Fiber Frames
We are now fully equipped to build carbon fiber frames in-house. The main differences between the da Vinci built and Calfee built frame are; our frames have an aluminum or chrome-moly bottom tube and chainstays, and it is $1000 less expensive. The metal bottom tube allows us the flexibility to used much bigger tires than the Calfee and we are able to keep the disc brake mount on the chainstay. This makes it easier to use a rear rack if you like, plus the chainstay makes a much more robust location for a disc brake. We feel the metal bottom tube and chainstays have no negative effect on the ride quality and there is very little weight difference. There is one other difference; the delivery time should also be significantly shorter on the frame we produce in Denver.

White Industries Freewheel Upgrade

When we first saw the White Industries ENO single speed freewheels we knew we had to offer them.
It took a little work but the result is a perfect fit and bicycle jewelry that is quieter, sealed from the elements, has a very precision feel and will out last all other freewheels.

This upgrade will fit any da Vinci ever sold.

Stiffer - Lighter - Better water bottle placement

Size Small Steel In-2-ition Road Campy

da Vinci / Calfee Carbon Tandem

Working with Craig Calfee, we are now offering Joint Venture and Joint AdVentures models in carbon fiber.

Size Small Steel Global Venture

Why did da Vinci Designs change the frame design?

The new frame is…

15% lighter. - Accelerate quicker, easier to climb with and easier to load on your car.

39% stiffer at the head tube. – More responsive for a better ride and more confidence in the corners and high speed descents.

7% stiffer vertically – We did not want to add too much vertical stiffness to keep the ride comfortable.

Better water bottle placement – Five nearly vertical bottle locations are easier to reach and help keep the sticky drink residue from building up on your frame.

Fewer S&S couplers on “Global” models and bigger open spaces between frame tubes. – If you have ever packed a S&S bike into one case, you have probably had a tough time keeping the axles away from the lateral tube. It is always right in the middle of the case and in your way.

The ride characteristics are impressive to say the least.

Why wasn’t this done years ago?

This has not been done in the past because until very recently the technology to manufacture the long, multi-butted, larger diameter tubes needed to make this work either did not exist or was not readily available to the bicycle industry.

Custom Rear Derailleur

When is the best not good enough?

Even though we offer a wider range of gears than any other bicycle in the industry, we occasionally have a need for gearing a little lower. The Campagnolo rear derailleurs we have been using for years do not work well with rear cogs larger than 29 tooth. We do not want to give up the reliability, rebuildabilty, comfort and front derailleur trim that only Campy Ergo shifters offer, but ten speed chains are proving to be too finicky and not very durable. Keeping to our Credo of "Drawing outside the chalkboard" we modified SRAM X9 and X7 derailleurs to work with Campy shifters. Now you can use any Campagnolo ten speed Ergo shifter and SRAM or Shimano compatible 9 speed cassette together. The CNC machined aluminum cable guide replaces the plastic one on the back of every X9 or X7 derailleur.

All new da Vinci Tandems come with the Anti-Chain-Suck bracket pictured below.

This hero works invisibly, preventing the chain from wrapping around the chainrings no matter how hard you are pedaling while you shift, or how dirty or dry your chain is.

We have also created a bolt-on model for all da Vinci owners that have a 2" diameter round keel tube (bottom tube that connects both bottom brackets).  $95
